October 11, 2014 - Good solid classic Chianti. Reasoanbly priced as well. I measure Chiantis in terms of how they fit along the spectrum from "enjoyable on their own or with food" (rare), "enjoyable much more with food" (most common), and "enjoyable much more on its own" (less common, usually oaked or extracted too much to be enjoyed with food; this is actually not a good thing imo). This is reasonable without food but not great; with food it does much better and complements tomato/acidic sauce well. We had this with a meat lasagna. Nice bright sour cherry backbone with a floral component; integrated woody notes with tannins that come out after an hour or so in the decanter. This will probably benefit from 2 or more years in the cellar as it unwinds and picks up secondary characteristics. The finish should also spread out over that time (currently is about 15 seconds). A good buy at $12, for sure. Wish I'd bought half a case.
