October 29, 2014 - Deep, almost opaque garnet red with some purple in the rim. Still a young wine. Medium intensity with black fruit, plum, cassis, and fruit cake aromas. There is also a hint of vanillin and menthol – quite nice. The palate is dry with medium tannins, medium+ acidity and medium intensity. Very fruit forward dominated by black cherry, currant, tea leaf with hints of licorice, white pepper and maybe a whiff of chocolate. The mid palate is a bit tart, which seemed a bit odd to me. Overall an interesting wine. The nose is great, but the palate is much more basic with few secondary characteristics peeking through a core of black cherry and currant-like characters. I thinking it will be better in a year – but hard to say. This wine took the Premier’s Award for best wine in then 2014 BC Wine Awards. Not exactly sure why, it’s a very good wine for sure, but I wouldn’t have pegged it as the best in the field.
