January 15, 2015 - This wine needs a warning label: Innovative Winemaking Ahead. It defies expectations, but it's definitely well-made. Decanted 90 mins. ahead. Light-medium garnet color. Nice nose that is actually floral, with red berries, pomegranate, just a touch of hard spice. Light-medium body on the palate, with very nice flavors of cherry, plum, and rhubarb in a sleek acid balance. Finishes with drying, light and velvety tannins. This wine dares you to hate it. It's a zinfandel like no other, well maybe very few others. Chris Brockaway is rewriting the textbook here, taking zin to places it does not usually go. Executive summary: This is zin as pinot noir. Maybe all you need to know about it is the stated ABV: 12.5%.
