Community Tasting Note

  • Johnnybegood Likes this wine: 91 points

April 18, 2015 - Note: This Wine was open and decanted 5 hours prior to drinking.

Color: Medium Red Cherry in appearance. Looks rather clear and not cloudy.

Nose: Very Pretty floral notes with a slight touch of oak in the background. Really nice and in a way reminds me of of young Williams Seylem wine insofar the smell has silky red fruit overtones that is definitely not Burgundy but very attractive.

Taste on Day 1: Medium body with a definite acid spine on the finish. This wine needs time to blossom but right now it is showing a good depth of mostly medium red cherry fruit with great balance but much of the nuances and complexity remains hidden under a middle weight frame structure of fruit. The 2012 San Mateo I had some time back was more open and lush compared to this wine but there is more going on with this Bearwallow terms of complex flavors and greater substance. I like this wine and if there was a California interpretation of a exotic Vosne Romane this might qualify for a top village wine that locality (Like Mugneret-Gibourg). Will probally let this sit for 3-5 more years and try another bottle then. Really lovely the more I sip. Will see how it preforms on day 2. Score 91+ today.

Day 2: This wine has closed up somewhat relative to the 1st day. Very similar to the 2012 San Mateo wine five months previous. The fruit is darker and the structure is larger, more reserved and more restrained. This wine is best enjoyed on Day 1 as there is simply more showing compared to the more massive structure now. Still a very good wine but since so much is hidden it is best to lay these away and forget until 2018-2020 at least. Recommended for the patent indeed.
