May 3, 2015 - While past prime, this wine is still interesting for someone who has experience with older wines. This still retains its indigo color but is showing some bricking. On the palate, while there's still some fruit present, leather, tobacco and cedar flavors are more apparent. Tannins have given way to glycerine. Still this was very approachable, reasonably priced, better than the last bottle. A fitting birth year wine in recognition of second sons impending wedding and the wedding shower given by friends Rick and Linda.

7/5/15, 8:41 AM - Same here, going for a birth year surprise for the maid of honor. Any notes on decanting time?

7/5/15, 9:32 AM - I seem to recall decanting through a Vinturi at least 60 minutes before drinking. May have been as much as 90 but probably not. I have a few bottles of '82, '84 and '89 birth year wines and I tend to stay on top of these as too often these older wines have a short window between opening and shutting back down. I will say that '84 California Cab's have done surprisingly well. Best of luck and congrats the the MoH. Hope you get to try the '84 with her.
