June 4, 2015 - At Union Square Cafe, from their list, they bought in a batch from a collector. Somm steered us to this, unique find on an always great list. My guests were European, good chance to try an aged Calif wine with palates skewed to Bordeaux. Purchased from a collector, well kept. Decanted for 30 minutes, drank over an hour.

Perfect garnet/purple red color, only mild signs of aging. Elegant nose of black fruits, dark cherry, earth cedar and tobacco. Palate was fruit forward but restained, repeating flavors from the nose, adding blueberry, plums, and baking spice. Tannins sweet and resolved. Long finish - lingers for 30+ seconds.

No expectations going in, the oldest Beringer I have had the opportunity to taste. The Reserve is an incredibly consistent wine, this one proving out the quality of this wine - better in most cases than the single vineyard offerings. Lucky to have a well kept bottle, excellent (almost perfect) example of an aged Calif.

PS ABV on the bottle was at 13.2%, my guess is this was closer to 12%. Would be good for Napa/Ca to get back to those levels for the longevity of the wine
