September 5, 2015 - A decent bottle but very different from the 2005 Far niente Cave collection. A little disjointed and some heat. Not horrible but not amazing and not what I expected. The cave collection 2005 bottle we drank was ridiculous. I wouldn't buy this again for its price point over the cave collection if thats how its going to be. Perhaps this was stored improperly.

9/6/15, 4:42 AM - We opened both them side by side and however or whatever they do with them, the cave collection bottle was very different. Actually completely different. I did however buy the 2005 Cave collection at Far niente last year and I did not get the other 2005's from the winery. So perhaps someone stored them improperly. There was 8 of us who tasted them Blind and all preferred the Cave collection.

9/6/15, 6:13 AM - And I guess that was the point of my review. Both 2005's were so different we were shocked. I noticed you didn't have any cave collection in your cellar. Maybe order a 2005 cave collection from Far Niente and try it yourself against one of your 2005's and see how it comes out for you. I am interested to know.

9/6/15, 8:27 AM - I think I will start adding a few cave collection vintages for comparison. I always worry about how some wine stores treat the bottles. Last year I stumbled into a 2007 Hillside Select at a wine store while on a ski trip in Montana. Had to buy it even though I won't open it for several years and if stored poorly it could be a complete waste. Thanks for the review.

So if you are concerned about buying poorly stored bottles simply buy direct. They also have very good prices . I get 12 bottles of cave collection reds per year for about $110 per bottle.
