October 7, 2015 - A wet Wednesday so we decided to partake in an Around the World Sip (approximately 150ml for two people) courtesy of Coravin. No particular wines, vintages or reason…just because, well, we thought it would be fun!

The fourth red of the evening. The 2006 Adega da Cartuxa Evora Reserva gangs up on your eye with a nice, dark red colour through which even lasers could not bypass. Opaque. A superb oak and dark fruit nose offers the sipper an opportunity to experience a classic Alentejo blend of Trincadeira, Aragonez, Alfrocheiro, Periquita, Moreto and Tinta Caiada. Huh? What’s that? Someday, we will know. The wine is elegant, statuesque and exceedingly complex. We have been sipping Portuguese drops for several years, and we like them…a lot. Having said that, we still do not know the varietals well enough to understand fully how good they are. Live ’n learn. Even cooler is the fact the wine takes its name from the Carthusian monks, who since 1598 have lived a life of solitude and prayer in the Monastery of Santa Maria Scala Coeli...

We know they sip well while praying, which is very, very cool!!!

Mid level of the “special”, “buy every year” and seek to share with your best sipping friends
