Community Tasting Note

  • NineteenEightyTwo Likes this wine: 90 points

October 25, 2015 - La Fête du Bordeaux (Park Hyatt, Chicago): Dark crimson color. Intensely perfumed nose and palate, with deep black and red fruit transitioning into a spicy finish. Like the 2005 Langoa Barton, this does not seem to justify the breathless praise lavished on the 2005 vintage. It certainly doesn't come anywhere near justifying the almost $120 price tag implied by the CellarTracker community valuation.

10/26/15, 1:19 PM - Thanks for the note. This might not be the best vintage of LB. That said, my guess is that this will need at least 3 and more likely 10 years to hit its stride. LB takes a long time to come around, especially in backward years like 2005. LB is not a bargain any more, as you point out, but it can still be a mighty fine drink when it finally reaches its drinking plateau.

10/27/15, 5:52 PM - Thanks for your note. We popped open a couple "Leggy Bottoms" this year, and we were pleasantly surprised that, with sufficient breathing, they were sipping nicely. We agree several more years will be of benefit, but happy now. We also agree the QPR is out of whack...which is sad as LB always has been a nice, reliable drop
