November 6, 2015 - 30 minute decant in bottle and we were off to the races. Nice balance with the acid in the forefront. Great with fresh pasta, butter, black pepper and Parmesan/Romano cheese. I was afraid the wine would overwhelm the food but the black pepper punched through the acid, cherry, blackberry, tobacco and the freshly laid asphalt notes. An hour after dinner the acid dropped out of the wine and I found only flabby fruit; definitely an odd turn of events. My suggestion - this wine is built for the sprint, not the Preakness - drink aggressively.
