November 21, 2015 - Pale ruby color, and the capsule showed some evidence of light seepage, so I was a bit sketched out about this bottle. Pulled the cork, let the wine get some air for two hours, and I was shocked at how well it started showing. Nose of rich strawberry jam, roasted figs, smoke, sweet herbs. On the palate it's full-bodied and rich, of course, with a bold texture and medium-low acid. Rich fruit (baked figs, blackberry jam, sweet cranberry sauce), this is still lively and fruity, but I get lots in the non-fruit realm: roasted coffee, anise cookie, charcoal pit, sweet tobacco, smoke, pine tar. Actually drank this with some homemade Cincinnati chili. Crazy-ass pairing, but my wife and I enjoyed it. Impressive for an auction buy at $20. There's still a lot to like in some old 2003s.

8/7/18, 3:09 AM - I just had another bottle and the wine still was very much alive. Same experience with the small, mushroomy cork and some seepage, by the way. Based on this bottle, I'd say the wine is still good for another three to five years. Cheers!
