November 25, 2015 - I found this as a bottom shelf special at the local grocers store, using it to compare bottom tier merlot to something somewhat more above average. For my $7 I got what I paid for and a little more. This maybe reflective of 2013 as being a better year than others but I think it held to the variital fairly well, good color, fairly deep, consistent rim, medium bodied - not the full-on mouth feel you would find in power merlot - but it had structure. The flavors I found were subdued and that was the primary fault I found in this wine; some fresh berries, subtle earthy (woodsy) undertones but nothing stood out and nothing here really memorable. I paired this with a homemade pizza and it went well. I spared the better bottle for another day as I do not see this wine holding up well beyond a two day window.
