December 31, 2015 - This is the second time to try the grapes from Tench Vineyard, but this is the first time to try pure Tench. The style of this wine is really a balanced style without making a typical overpowering Napa Cab. On the nose, tart cherry, cedar, vanila, and plum were mild but vivid at the edge of the glass. After sipping in, well-integrated sweetness and sourness makes the wine really fresh and vivid. Then, licorice and ripen tannin support a long lasting about 20 seconds. In this classic vintage, jammy and imbalance are easily found dominant characters in the most of the Napa wines. However, this one is one of the kind. I almost am deceived that this is a right bank wine, because the wine is redder and more like Merlot based wines. It reminds me the Merlot from Pahlmeyer but more profound. Excellent work! People now probably all agree that Thomas Rivers Brown is the top three winemaker in Napa valley. Hope I can try some more from him in the future. For me, he is another magician in Napa valley, who is also good in multiple varieties with creative ideas.
