  February 6, 2016 - A Savennières for 12€? I should have known better. Not premoxed exactly but a victim of malactic fermentation - nearly orange in colour, the taste bludgeoned into submission - sad, really, because you can sense the minerality struggling to emerge. Not undrinkable hence the score but rather akin to UHT milk.

  7/1/16, 2:57 AM - Cheers! Sadly not an exception to any rule - Savennières used to be a treasure trove, not so much any more thanks to malolactic idiocy. One domaine that doesn't is Domaine FL, which bought Jo Pithon's vineyard along with Château de Chamboureau, so their wines are to look out for.

  7/1/16, 6:51 AM - Thanks for the tip. Took a flyer yesterday on 2 "close out" bottles of 2010 Baumard plain Savennières at $14 each. Not holding high hopes, but risk/reward is tempting. Most great Chenin Blancs still under the price radar, thankfully.

  7/1/16, 8:44 AM - Baumards can be very good or very bad - so I hope yours' are good - if you haven't done, try some Chidaine or Blot from Montlouis.

  7/27/16, 6:08 PM - Hi Julian, finally got around to pop open my Baumard Sav (straight - no special cuvee) 2010 I bout at $15/bott. Loved it. Sad only managed to get 2... just for reference and discussion.
