May 22, 2016 - A dinner with friends at home: Served with oysters. Solid Champagne but at least this 2004 vintage is not worth the extra money over the better NVs. Pale yellow, medium mousse, crisp with plenty of citrus, a touch of brioche. Despite opening it about 45 min before people arrived I found it a bit thin and boring on the palate. I have my doubts that this will improve much with more time in bottle.

5/22/16, 11:15 AM - Sorry to read that you found this uninspiring. Hope my bottles show better. But, oysters and champagne?? Not much can top that!

5/22/16, 12:13 PM - Its pretty young for a vintage wine and too old for that initial fruit attack. I think that Cristal and LGD as well as DP from 2004 need cellar time. I think holding these will show that the extra....$20 over NV will show nicely in 5-15 years.

around here NV Veuve Cliquot is usually $45, and I bought Gold Label for $60. Right now and for the last several years NV have been the early drinking bargain as champagne has had such a good number of vintages in a row. I wouldn't hesitate to buy as many NV as you like, and put a note on the for date and cellar them as well. I really liked a Vilmar NV I kept in the cellar for 3 years as well as a Laurent-Perrier. It is a time where vintage wine with high prices are really just for holding a long time. Too much good juice out there for high prices and young drinking. Tons of great cremant de bourgeon that is excellent young and near that $15-$20 price range.

Climate change that favors the consumers.

5/22/16, 9:24 PM - Thanks for feedback. Will try to keep my remaining bottles a bit longer in that case. Am not a frequent Champagne drinker but the few 04 I had (DP, grande Dame, the Lamiable just following this and a few more) were all showing better at similar age. This just does not seem to have the substance. Prefer Bollinger, Roederer NV and not to mention Egly Ouriet NV over the 04 Veuve
