May 26, 2016 - What an absolute mind-fuck: this is a perfectly still wine, but it smells 100% EXACTLY like fine Champagne: musky, vervy, crisp, dry chalky minerality, orchard fruit, almond pastry, and the dirty dancing butthole of a forrest mushroom. It even has a similar light gold-grey hue. But then on this HUGE expanding palate of stunning purity and verve, you get all the classic Champagne profile above, joined with an orangey bite of cumquat and a long savory note that runs down the middle. It’s so beautiful and unique, and I’m madly in love. Only three-quarters of an acre of the Altesse grape is grown on this particular estate so if you’re lucky enough to see it, buy it (I grabbed 5 more). A true gem in the kermit lynch portfolio.
