July 5, 2016 - After a couple stellar bottles of '10, curiosity got the better of me and we had to check in on the '08. Glorious serralunga spice, honey, violets, roses and tar over a signature base of medicinal cherry cola. I could drink this alone but it screams for herb crusted lamb or carne crudo or a plate of local cheeses that are pungent and oddly delicious. No signs of fading, yet somehow the elegance of the '08 vintage is like a leash that can barely hold on to the feral Cappellano tannins... the tension is intoxicating.

I appreciate and respect the merit in different interpretations of Barolo, but this is the style that I love. It is not a restaurant wine; it is not polished, polite or "safe" like Vietti or Altare... Cappellano is something special.
