August 4, 2016 - I mean, I like my wines mouth-puckering, tannic, stern, stoic, dry, like licking a chalkboard.
And this has all of that.
I thought matching it up against a nice juicy grilled strip sirloin would do the trick.
But this is just a brutally tannic, humorless, green-streaked effort that, hey, don't get me wrong, I like the 2002 element in it, but in the end I need something I can hang my hat on -- a 2002 classicism -- a 2006 light-on-its-feetness -- and in the end this just is a big tannic disjointed green mess that even Jim How (apologize for the third person reference) can't love.
Not a 79 point effort, mind you -- it still gets 88 "good" points in my book -- but what a difference from other Medoc friends from 2004, lil Clerc Milon, Smith Haut Lafitte, Lafon Rochet, etc., etc., etc. A big difference from the last time, the one time, I seemed to really enjoy this wine. Tonight it was much more like the several other bottles I've had.
    Rating: 88 points.
