August 11, 2016 - Prototypical Chilean for me. Get a lot of spice on the nose. This is a big wine; pretty big on the palate, and a big finish. Lots of firm tannin. Nicely made, and will age well no doubt. But I preferred the 2013. I understand this had less cab (around 67%) while the 2013 had more like 71%. And this was a warmer vintage, although they did get a nice cool period right before harvest.

8/14/17, 3:53 PM - I was in Chile last year and passed a the chance to visit Almaviva purely because of price. They wanted $130 per bottle and $75 to taste. In your opinion, is this wine worth trying for $90 per bottle?

They included the Almaviva in the lineup she tasted, which included almost a dozen wines. She said the Almaviva was the best with the possible exception of the high-end carmenere. She bought a bottle of the Almaviva and the carmenere at the winery and said it was much cheaper than what she saw it selling for at the airport.

8/15/17, 8:15 AM - Thanks for the feedback, I'll buy a bottle and try it. I am a fan of several Chilean wines, but personally was not a big fan of the Chilean wine experience. Felt very Disney World and expensive compared to even Napa, Mendoza, or France.

Surprisingly, South American wines are cheaper in the US than in country. I like Don Melchor, which I can get at Costco for $75 while they want about $115 in Chile. Pretty crazy...the same goes for Achaval Ferrer, Catena Zapata and others. wine-searcher.com is my friend.
