September 6, 2016 - Still tight as a pop and pour with red fruit sitting up front over wet stone, but aluminum dominates the finish for about the first thirty minutes of airtime. After about an air of airtime (we didn't decant this evening) the wine is singing. The nose if full of spice and garni and the palate enjoys heavy dark fruit and loads of wet slate stone. Tannins are strong and linear, which makes the fruit Seem pushed towards the red spectrum, meaning age will subdue the red fruit and bring us the sun ripened plums and anise. The high alcohol shows right after swallowing as a crescendo of short-lived heat and the finish lingers.

9/6/16, 8:46 PM - Wine strategies - I'm sorry, I don't know much about the 2009 Gigondas, but I'm guessing you're telling me that 2009 Gigondas in particular (and perhaps South Rhone in general) were tough ones?

I was impressed with this wine for the price (I mean for under $30 this is delightful) and I was really pleased after the first hour. However confident I was the green and aluminum was going to blow off, it's always nice when it does. It's part of why I most often don't like Spanish Granacha, as I find it remains a tad green.
