April 25, 2015 - A wine made from selected grapes of the Serralunga d'Alba Region. 20-25 days of maceration. Aged for 4 years in casks of different sizes (500 l Swiss oak, 225 French oak, various Slavonian bottis) of mainly used wood and further 1 year in bottle.

Translucent cherry red color with quite dark core and pale, brick-colored rims. Rich, ripe and aromatic nose with pronounced cherry aromas, dusty earth, some sour cherry, fragrant floral nuances and hints of alcohol. Rich, full-bodied and quite tannic palate with modestly sweet flavors of ripe red cherry, slightly bitter sour cherry, some earth and hints of dark-toned wood spice. Despite showing quite firm and grippy tannins along with moderate acidity, the mouthfeel is quite succulent and velvety instead of harsh and tightly wound. The finish is obviously tannic, but quite rich and fruity with flavors of sweet dark cherry, some stony minerality, a little bitterness and hints of toasted spices.

Good stuff, obviously, but also very rich and fruit-forward; some might consider this a good thing, but to me, this wine feels a little less complex and more easy-going than the other vintages of Rivetto Barolos, which can be remarkable in their depth, complexity and intensity. This is an early-drinking Barolo with good, pure, typical Nebbiolo fruit and power, but not that kind of structure that would require years of aging. Drink now or after only a handful of years; no need to age this for a long time.

8/6/19, 9:00 PM - I think this is a wonderful note, but I couldn’t disagree more on the score or the longevity...we over paid (at a restaurant obviously), but this thing was great out of the shoot, and elevated over the next four hours!!!
