February 19, 2017 - Haut Brion & La Mission Haut Brion: I had high hopes for the 64 Haut Brion and although it showed well, it wasn't spectacular. The 64 La Mission gave a much stronger showing on the night and ultimately, if all the 64 HBs are like this, they are probably best served on their own. The wine has the classic Haut Brion black cherry though the fruit is now getting a tad attenuated. There is a marked toffee note and touches of loam and smoke. This was beautifully balanced on the palate (when is Haut-Brion not?) and finished well, but it's time to drink these.
