Community Tasting Note

  • VoteferPedro Does not like this wine: 85 points

February 23, 2017 - I have gone on record as not liking this recently

Previously I have had great experiences with Fontodi chiantis and so bought a case of this.

I shared abottle with a buddy who found it disappointing. I found the first bottle so bitter and intensely tannic it was undrinkable. Years ago I had a similar experience with a '95 Dominus (horribly tannic in '99 but deliscious in 2009). Based on that I gave this another try...but after 6 hour decant.

At decant the tannins were furrier than the balls of Sasquatch. After six hours in the decanter It was much better...drinkable. It has palpable fruit that is on the bluer spectrum but texture dominates; thick chocolat-y, aftertaste more like a new world bordeaux blend.

My impression has not changed...it is too tannic in general and the fruit seems so atypical and is at such variance from other reviews that I even doubt my bottle s provenance. However I compared my lables to those posted and to other Fontodis I have had and dont see a variance
