Community Tasting Note

  • Cristal2000 Likes this wine: 96 points

April 8, 2017 - No formal notes, all from memory. Had this next to a 2013 Tusk and 2014 Carter OG. While this couldn't match the Tusk, it was at least equal to the Carter and just exceptional in most every way. Decanted for three hours prior to drinking. Already singing, this wine stands out for its luxurious texture, exceptional depth and nice backbone. There is structure and tannins to last, but the wine is still eminently approachable. It's about as good a wine as I can ever remember from the Southern end of Napa, and will not disappoint. Ideally could use another year or two.

4/9/17, 11:14 AM - Winelover: Unfortunately Tusk doesn't operate like normal wineries with a wait list. Although you can sign up for it, you will likely never get on. You must be referred by a current list member unless you know one of the owners. I can do this for you if you want, but gotta be sure you want to buy the wine. It's $400/bottle with lowest level of membership 3 750mls and 1 Mag.

4/9/17, 2:43 PM - Well well well -- Fairchild Stones pricing and we don't even know which vineyards! Love it. I would like to try this for a couple of reasons: (1) you love it and gave it a 99 rating, (2) I think that more than anyone else on CT, our tastes are the most similar, (3) love Melka. So yep; let me know what info you need from me and thanks in advance!

4/9/17, 5:20 PM - Well, Tusk is supposed to Melka's Masterpiece. They take enough grapes to make 2000 cases of super premium wine and end up with 150-200 based on his desires. He is also an owner. It has definitely been the case that this wine is the best I've had from him. Because they make so little, and are so exclusive, I am okay with the price, but time will tell. Never been disappointed however.

If you can give me your email contact information, I will connect you with them to see if I can get you hooked up.

4/17/17, 10:45 PM - Cristal2000- When I tasted with Juan a few months ago, the Farella showed the best. The texture and depth of favor were almost perfect, on that day it showed much better than the Moonracer.

4/18/17, 11:13 AM - amauryc1 - I agree with you. I had the 2014 Farella the other night and it was fantastic. They do an amazing job with that fruit -- it is singing.
