April 14, 2017 - Opened this bottle on Sunday for a tasting. PnP. First impression: simple Blaufränkisch with rough edges. Some guests said, that the nose remind them of a North Sea breeze… Fortunately I did not have the heart to poor the bottle down the sink and took it home and let it stay there in my guest room for five days. Today I tried it again as a pairing of spicy lamb filet:
    Glass: Riedel Vinum Syrah
Clear, deep, intense purple color with violet reflexes. Almost black. Nose have transformed and opened up: Clean, medium (+) intense, youthful-developing with a complex and very nice combination of soil, herbs, crushed cherries, smoke, pepper and saltiness (the rest of the sea breeze…). Cool!
And on the palate the wine have completely changed an opened up: Dry, medium+/high acidity, perfectly integrated that makes this wine wonderfully easy and joyful to drink. Medium+ tannin that is on a very good way, not yet perfectly blended in and still a bit rough, but giving the wine a solid backbone. With only 12,5% abv thankfully not a alcohol bomb. Beautiful flavors of cherries, plum, highlighted by notes of soil, licorice, violets and herbs. Medium+ finish. Very good balance and tension, the high acidity makes this wine very vibrant.
If you drink this wine now, give it lots of air or open it in the morning and decant. Otherwise let it sleep in your cellar for a couple more years, you will be rewarded. Very nice wine, good PQR.
