July 4, 2017 - I opened this out of Patriotism, this being July 4. I am in a very silent minority though. Most reviews on Cellar Tracker rate this wine in the mid-nineties but I am reluctant to even inch it up to the high "80's. Why? Because there is a sea of wines at a fraction of the price point that will give you what you are looking for. Want fruit power and a punch in your face? Then buy a bottle of Martini Cabernet for about $17.00 a bottle. Want as much fruit and vitality but with a bit more balance? Then drink a bottle of Chinon, which will set you back less than $30 I imagine. Want to go old school and drink one of the early pioneers of California Cabernet but don't want to shell out more than $100? My suggestion would be to buy the second label of Montelena or Spotteswoode. Even better, buy a bottle of cabernet from the 1993 vintage, say Dunn, at auction for less than $75 -- and taste a wine from the golden age of California wine making before it was ruined by Robert Parker. At least that is my POV.
