August 7, 2017 - Note to self I need to check the humidity on my cellar because this is the 3rd cork in three days busted in half. Aerate to decanter through filter. Color is deep garnet with black hues and bricking at the edge, cloudy, about 3 tablespoons of sediment, full body. You can smell this from across the room. Deep complex aromas of sun-baked mix of plum, black cherry, and blackberry preserves, heavy spices, horse manure, scorched earth, and cedar. Tastes of blackness abound, with prune, black cherries, black currants, black pepper, hardwood smoked beef jerky, but also brightening aspects of perfumed floral and clay. Reminds me so much of the family-owned wineries of Paolo Bea and Castello di Ama --- a fascinating wine of place that loads the palate with rich dark juicy fruits on entry and then follows with so many shades of earth in the mid-palate into a lengthy finish along with formidable tannins that are a nice mix of smoothly polished and rustic. This could probably go another ten years, but it really depends on how much more earthy rusticity you want to experience. Production of this is very small but I would definitely seek it out and buy again.
