March 17, 2008 - After drinking a 1978 Louis Latour Clos Vougeot last week I decided waiting any longer to drink this wine would be foolish. Cork crumbled into multiple parts; nose right out of the bottle was promising. Poured a bit into a Riedel Vinum Burgundy glass, the edges show bricking like would be expected from a wine this age but the core was a very clear light red, the nose had a bit of Pinot funk followed by a floral scent and an earthy component. In the mouth there is a bit of cherry followed by something I can’t put my finger on(tastes like sweet dark fruit?). Short finish, 10 - 15 seconds, would say this is a winner for the $32 I paid for it. Drink now as this is on the downward spiral but still a good wine, wish I had paired this with a Salmon.
