August 19, 2017 - Showing some development in last two years. Still delicious. Suave satiny texture. Extremely elegant with deceptive depth. Red fruits, cranberry, cherry pit, potpourri spice, sous bois. Very very long finish relative to its weight. Day two it had less fruit and energy than day one.

8/20/17, 6:10 AM - Not trying to be a smart ass but I don't think I'd risk a day 2 on a wine like this unless forced to. I'd love to drink it over several hours starting with the moment I uncorked it which can often be interesting too. Where you purposely trying to see if it improved on day 2? Just curious? I love Rousseau! I have one of the 09s so I'll try not open it till 2030 when I'm 75 I guess :).

    8/22/17, 8:10 AM - Hi Sixchips600 AND Chablis28,
as i brought one of this Gevrey 09 bottles home from my cellar to try it soon, your topical discussion and TN is very helpful for me!
Therefore I will do it the Chablis28 way! Pnp and enjoy over an evening. Cheers

8/22/17, 3:52 PM - Enjoy, Rousseau is top of the heap for me. Too bad the pricing is so goofy now. I used to buy the "big 2" for $160 each. Even Ruchottes which was the underrated gem of the house is now around $400+.

    8/23/17, 7:41 AM - Hi again,
you are very right. The price tag of A. Rousseau wines these days is absolutely annoying!
And, you will hardly find them in retail stores in my country.............

Honestly i have to admit, never tried one of the "big 2". Purchased some CdlR a decade+ ago. A 1999 and some 2002 and 2005 are still waiting in my cellar.
I recently brought some bottles from my cellar to my home wine fridge. A 2009 Gevrey, Charmes-Ch. 2007 and my last bottle Lavaux 1er Cru 2008.

Any suggestions about handling one of these? Cheers from Hamburg

8/24/17, 3:50 AM - I'd read through the most recent CT notes ( hopefully no more than 18 months old) for how to handle the btl and to see if its currently drinking well and showing any mature notes. Rousseaus seem to stay open from release on. The real question is can you wait to catch them at a more fully mature phase of 15+ years out? If you want mushrooms and forest floor notes those rarely show up B4 age 15+. The Rousseaus are always notable for their balance, purity and terroir expression at any age. Complexity may require 15yrs+. The big hitters usally have some oak to integrate too. Not oppressive oak, early on ( like a Jadot) excep t for the Rousseau CSJ which some reason comes off a bit oaky early on? Ruchottes,LSJ and Charmes drink better earlier than CSJ. I'm trying to be patient and open Rousseaus at 15+. The 07 Charmes is likely the most ready to offer up some mature mushroom and underbrush notes. In fact that 07 Charmes has the potential to be great now because of the vintage. I'd always drink them from a Burg glass and never anything else. Mostly PnP with plenty of time to enjoy the evolution. So start an hour or so before dinner and finish the last sip no sooner than 2-3 hours later. Great wines usually evolve. I really don't think the Rousseaus need a decant. The Burg glass is a decanter :). I was a little disappointed in the 09 village wine when I had my first btl so perhaps 09s need to sleep more? I'm not touching my couple of 05s till 2025 if I can be patient enough. The '08 could drink well too? The 10s in Burgundy are awesome but a little primary.

8/24/17, 9:04 AM - Thank you very much for your thoughts and efforts. As this summer in northern Germany is falling out more or less this year, we are just planning for the next maybe good wheather weekend a barbecue.

And if everything takes its course i will open the Charmes.
