September 8, 2017 - During a Australian Pinot tasting with Pirates from Burgundy. Light garnet. Color and nose reminds me of a elegantly styled Gevrey. There is a spicy, gamey touch, to the nose, restraint and mineralic, not your new world bruiser, far from it. A really nice and elegant wine, very Burgundian. Kudos to this team far away in Tasmania to have pulled this off. After having tasted quite a few AUS Pinots tonight, especially Tasi, I must say that in terms of interest to Australian wine, I think these cooler site Pinots are very interesting. Barossa Shiraz and Coonawarra CabSav is still the signature of Downunder but I find these Pinots a lot more interesting than the uninspiring low-aroma-high-tannin Margret River Bdx blends.
