Mindboggling aromatic display-black fruit, olive, smoke, violets, and eventually, a thread of pine/mint which became most prominent. Voluptuous feel without being too dense or heavy, absolutely penetrating acids, black and dark red fruit of perfect weight and ripeness, substantial ripe tannins, and granite. All that said, the descriptors do not do this justice, as it was one of the most exciting, promising young wines I've drunk over the past few years. Its balance, depth, and complexity are all wonders to behold, and it should continue its ascent for another 30 years. Essence of Syrah-wow! Recalls trying the '09 Clape at a similar stage, but this may have more even more dimensions than that wine.

9/17/17, 10:00 PM - Glad to hear it! I bought a bottle a year or two ago based largely on reputation alone, and in retrospect should have probably bought much more since I'll never be able to buy Allemand again at the rate prices are going up. Still, I'll enjoy this bottle in probably 10 years.

11/11/17, 9:04 AM - I love this review. We had this as part of a wine pairing at Per Se earlier this year and I picked up a couple bottles. This wine embodies what I think is the most excruciating dilemma of a fine wine collector - how long do you hold it? Shutting it away for 10 years in the cellar seems like a travesty, but so does drinking it too early!
