September 18, 2017 - brick with tinges of orange on the rim - classic old Bordeaux nose of leather, tobacco and cassis - beautifully balanced mouth with just the right amount of residual tannins - nice long finish - perfect with grilled lamb chops - this wine along with the 96 Montrose and the 96 Pichon Lalande have changed my opinion of the 96s from just a good vintage to a great vintage that is drinking at its peak right now

9/20/17, 2:23 PM - Rer - for any >20 year old wine, I decant through a Bartelli stainless steel mesh filter, for 30 min, then drink it over the next hour - I don't think many old wines develop longer than this (though I usually save some to try a few hours later anyway) - this wine was beautiful from 30 min onward

9/21/17, 2:45 PM - Thanks for the response regarding prep. I usually do the same when I'm at home. I also keep the bottle standing up in my cellar for a few days to allow the sediment to settle.
