November 6, 2017 - With 2013 being a killer vintage, the 2013 O'Shaughnessy has to be a winner, so I thought anyway. The 2008 O'Shaughnessy was outstanding, so I couldn't wait to try this 2013. The first bottle was clearly wasn't ready, so I let this wine lay on the rack for almost a year and to my surprise, it's still not ready. Great vibrant purple color, very inviting in appearance, but on the palate, the wine is still very coiled, tight, restricted, acidic, still not ready. This Howell Mountain vintage is showing like much like the Dunn Howell mountain cabs that I have tried, but they don't reveal much when they are young and may require several months or years before they come around. I will wait awhile before I open another.

11/6/17, 5:53 PM - Pretty much the same thing I noticed. This was a powerful vintage and might just need quite a few years to be ready. I just picked up a 6 pack of the 2007 and the 2008 Mt. Veeder. I'm thinking they are probably ready about now to consume.

11/6/17, 6:08 PM - Your probably right. I can tell you that the 2008 O'Shaughnessy was the best that I've tasted from that winery. I won't open a 2013 anytime soon.

11/6/17, 6:51 PM - Looking forward to trying one of the '07 and '08 over the next month. Will keep you posted. I didn't start drinking O'Shaughnessy til about their '12 vintage but have heard nothing but good things about the Veeders of '07 and '08.

11/12/17, 6:28 PM - MB.....I have a feeling the same holds true for the '07 and '08 Veeders. The '07 I had tonight could use quite a few more years whereas the '08 is superb right now.

1/5/19, 7:04 PM - Im drinking my first bottle of O'SHAUGHNESSY, and it is the 2013. I let it slow ox for 3 hrs and decanted for 2 and it was open for business on the glass but a little closed on the palate. Now after 3 in the decanter its firing on all cylinders but the finish is a little too dominated by tannins.

The fruit, acid, tannins mix on this wine is perfect for aging, but if you don't mind a mouth drying finish from tannins it's drinking pretty well now.
