Community Tasting Note

  • whybuyone Does not like this wine:

November 10, 2017 - I think there are several reasons for the mixed reviews on this wine. Bottle variation and storage can play a big role but personal preference is probably the major factor.

I popped and poured a small sip. The rest went into the decanter. For the first two hours, this was far too tight and acidic. Nothing like you would encounter with an old Bordeaux. Direct opposites, in fact. I'm very familiar with Nebbiolo so I expected this.

I tried it over the course of five hours, with food at one point, and it just wasn't approachable. Not enjoyable. Left it sit overnight. Next day, it had mellowed substantially and was okay. Paired it with some pasta and the food cut what was left of the acidity.

If you don't own it, I don't recommend purchasing. It is definitely not worth the money. If you do own it, I recommend drinking now but let it sit in a decanter for a day before you touch it and pair it with food. It does have a bit of that sherry feel to it but it's not exactly like sherry. Some people enjoy that taste and some do not so I think that explains the wide range in the ratings.
