Community Tasting Note

  • Soteriologist Likes this wine: 89 points

November 17, 2017 - First Private Budget Red Quaffer Re-Buy Contest Marathon; 9/1/2017-2/13/2018 (At Home): Eye brilliant garnet to ruby, dark shadows to transparent depending on how much is left in the glass. Medium to swift legs, medium to medium minus body.
Beautiful herbal nose of strawberry, cedar, cigar box and a bit black pepper, but all these elegant, unobtrusive and one inseparable whole.
Sweet dark cherry palate, wonderfully balanced with a slightly bitter, salty and even remotely soapy aspect to it, but not to its detriment, particularly in the length.

    A subjective 91 on day 1, an 88, perhaps, on day 3.

Good quality for the price ! A definite re-buy.

1/2/18, 1:15 AM - Thanks for your note! I only had a small sip in a tasting a few months back, but recall great purity and balance, a good acidic backbone and a saline quality. I bought a case of six and are very much looking forward to opening my first bottle!

I will probably open my other bottle this year with this aspect in mind particularly since I have to finish most of my bottles alone, usually across 3 days. And I have to admit that I am starting to get tired of wines that don't hold up.

1/2/18, 7:27 AM - Thanks. I will. Based on my experience with the whites I would be surprised if the wine does not age well, but let's see. I bought a case of six and intend to open the bottles over the next two decades, so time will tell ;)

1/2/18, 8:27 AM - Oh, rumor has it that they age very well ! But I am not so sure if that means the same as holding up well after opening the bottle in every case. In principle, isn't it thinkable that a wine is made in such a way that it matures well for a long time but can still disintegrate soon after opening even when still young ? I know too little about that.
