April 6, 2008 - This wine is massive, dark and broody; the colour of crude oil in the glass, completely opaque. The nose is an impressive and enticing mix of blackest cherries, figs and dates, with undertones of coal smoke, acetone and black liquorice. The texture is beautifully smooth but the tannins are puckeringly bitter straight out of the bottle. When things eventually mellow the length is firm and impressive, with a stocky complexity underlying the eye-watering early tannins. Excellent potential; but needs a few more years to chill out.
