    December 29, 2017 - Christmas family dinner 2017:

    1. Nicolas Feuillatte Brut Reserve (89p) - 2 bottles
92 points Parker sticker on both bottles. 40% Pinot Noir - 40% Petit Meunier - 20% Chardonnay. My favourite NV Champagne in the 20€ price range. Yeasty, nuts, brioche and lemon notes. Outstanding given the 20€ I paid for each bottle.

    2. Molitor Rüdesheimer Schlossberg Spätlese Trocken 2015 (91p) - 3 bottles
WOTN for most of us. Young, but ready to drink: On the palate stonefruit, peach, slate with well integrated RS and acidity. Juicy, savoury, and dry at the same time.

    3. Jean Stodden Spätburgunder Alexander 2016 (85p) - 1 bottle
This typical German Pinot Noir is quite different from its French or US relatives, which I usually prefer. Light transparent red, almost orange (Aperol!) colour, herbal nose. Herbs on palate with licorice, cherries and wood. Tough job to compete with other wines this evening.

    4. Scheiblhofer Big John 2015 (89p) - 1 Magnum
3h decant. This was a christmas gift, which we spontaneously decided to add to the wine menu on christmas eve. Cuvée made from Zweigelt, Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot noir, which spent 12 months in oak barriques. Very young but already at the beginning of its drinking window (to ~2025). Dark violet colour, dark berries and wood on nose. You can taste that this is a cuvée, whereas Zweigelt (60%) is quite dominant with dark chocolate, strong tannins and red berries. Easy to drink.

    5. Chateau Fieuzal 2008 (90p) - 3 bottles
3h decant. Had this Bordeaux also at our last family dinner and my notes are still the same:
Kirsch and coffee nose. Very accessible with kirsch, leather, and coffee notes; round tannins and long finish. Perfect drinking window right now.
