Community Tasting Note

January 23, 2018 - Quite pale. Nose of red fruit, white pepper, crushed rocks and tar.

The palate is lithe and light+ bodied. The raspberry fruit takes a back seat to the other elements in the wine -- black tea, white pepper, earth and some stemmy notes. Strongly leans AFWE, those looking for flavor bombs need not apply.

1/24/18, 12:20 AM - It takes awhile for this to come around, but when it does, I'm liking it just fine. Regular syrah drinkers are underwhelmed, but pinot drinkers are rewarded.

1/24/18, 5:03 AM - Agreed Dennis. It’s far from a prototypical California Syrah (of course, it’s Oregon). Upon opening the bottle I thought it tasted over the hill, but after 30m I was rewarded with a much more pleasurable drink. I think people not used to the style may recoil; but I enjoy the wine for what it is. Still, I’d drink up sooner, rather than later.

1/24/18, 9:28 AM - I remember taking a bottle to our dinner gathering of Syrah drinkers where it was not initially liked, some thought spoiled. As the night moved along, more open time or palate familiarization brought people to like it. At least they had a second glass. I have a few left and got a case of the '08 which is a bit more approachable.
