February 3, 2018 - We tasted this wine after a 3-hour decant, serving it with extra-thick grilled ribeye steaks, roasted small purple potatoes, and Caesar salad.

It was excellent. Full-bodied, it presented dense flavors of mixed black fruits (blackberry and blueberry, chiefly, with some mulberry), tobacco, floral incense, and of course, generous dusty tannins. The finish was long and lingering, with tannins, dried blueberry, and potpourri.

The QPR on this wine was outstanding, and I wish I'd bought cases of it. It competes with Napa Cabs from the same vintage, at 1/5 the price. At this age, now that the tannins have settled down, it also resembles a very good Petite Sirah. This wine doesn't need any more aging at this stage, but can hang on for another 5 years or so.
