February 11, 2018 - From two mixed cases of Deiss wines closed out for a song by a local store fifteen years. It has been interesting to watch their evolution. Golden and viscous in the glass. I have never gotten much Riesling on the nose of this wine and that hasn't changed. The aromatics are mostly tropical fruit--blind I would have said 100% Pinot Gris, with some botrytis. The earlier crystalline richness has been replaced by what I would call pure unctuousness. There is some almond and spice on the finish that speaks of other grapes eg Gewürztraminer. Good acidity gives it some lift. We paired this with Mediterranean flavors and it did very well. A singular wine. Mature but in no way tired.
