February 23, 2018 - There is a risk of being less objective when assessing wines of a cult producer such as Roumier. Realistically there is little probability of finding the wine anything but well-made so invariably the interrogation becomes one of quality-to-price ratio since this wine now retails for the same price as lauded premier crus. About the wine: this wine was beautiful on release, all red fruited, tingy acidity and lift. A very singular vintage in how approachable it was in youth and an extreme combination between flavor intensity and lightness of color/density. Almost 10 years on and it has morphed - darker fruit and secondary aromas emerging, everything well in place. While totally satisfying and probably as good as a Chambolle Village can get one cannot help to wonder whether it is justified not to go for the added complexity of a good 1er Cru at the same price level. The superior experience for this wine may have been earlier in its life.
