February 25, 2018 - The nose of white flowers, licorice, wet stone and blackberries is fairly muted at the moment. Gorgeous dark purple in the glass. On the pallet, this is showing quite a bit tighter than the first bottle I had, which was right after release. Even after about 5 hours of air, the tannins and acid are still making it more of a sharp and angular experience than I remember. The mid pallet is full, but a bit disjointed and my feeling is that perhaps this is starting to shut down. Manages to still show off a long finish, but with significantly more astringency than I would expect. The fruit is still so pure and wonderful that it's not a wasted experience, but I would wait a while before popping the cork. There are lots of layers here, and it feels like it will need to resolve and unfurl before showing its stuff again.

This is probably the least expensive LPV around at $125. I believe Mike Smith makes three of these - Carter La Verdad and Carter La Bam are the others. The Verdad is clearly head and shoulders above the other two IMO (2015 vintage), and I feel like the Quivet and La Bam are very similar in many respects. To me, going deep on the Quivet is a no brainer.

4/6/19, 6:28 PM - Very good note Crystal2000. Good value for the vineyard even if a little too primary at the moment.
