May 3, 2008 - Popped and poured - no decanting. Initially, wine was opened up on the nose, with cherry, spice and earthy notes. In the mouth, an offputting spritziness to the wine, followed by lots of dark notes - lots of earthiness, dark cherries, and a little spice. Left the glass out and the bottle uncorked for several hours - then revisited the wine. Much better - the spritziness is gone, and the fruity notes have emerged. Still a fair amount of earthiness, but the fruit is now brighter, and the wine is a nice balance of dark fruit, spice, earth, and now tart cherry notes. A slight bitterness to the finish keeps it from scoring higher, but I'm glad I have a few more in the cellar, as it feels like this wine will improve in a couple of years.
