Wine Fool Likes this wine: 99 points
March 31, 2018 - (Opened for one hour but not decanted.) This wine is wonderful and one of my favorites from this celebrated vintage. It has a mesmerizing black cherry color and an explosive nose of ripe fruit, summer herbs, lavender, earth and just a suggestion of funk. In the mouth it is lusciously deep and rich with sweet black fruit, licorice and meat flavors. These primary flavors are supported by rosemary, thyme, mushroom and coal tar undercurrents. To keep this big wine from going over the top there is also a welcomed vein of lean, refined acidity. And the whole thing is wrapped in ripe tannins that melt away in the long, long finish. In sum, a near perfect wine that deserves a near perfect score. 99+ points, for now.
