April 1, 2018 - Nice wine - needed decanting and showed best after an hour. DEMANDS food. We served with a roasted lamb shank and alongside a 2009 Obsidian (also Donelan). The Kobler is more tannic up front but the fruit is slightly more red and somehow less extracted. The Obsidian is more heavily extracted and several hues darker - almost black - the fruit is dark and just shy of being jammy. Minerality of the Obsidian is much darker and pushes to a kind of dark ash. After three hours the Kobler rounded out a lot and the tannins dropped off substantially.
