March 12, 2017 - This was a bottle that was stored in likely poor condition, in a store known to be warm in the summers, and the label was in horrid condition but the price was too good to ignore. Plus, it's sweet riesling, so it's got as good a chance as any non-fortified wine of holding up, right?

Well, the cork fell apart. Apparently 2005 Prums might have some pretty crappy corks.

I write this note over a year later because it's still one of my benchmark wines, and now with some more perspective, I can safely say that it continues to impress in my memory. One of the best rieslings I've ever had. What stands out in my memory the most is the incredible finish. I could still taste slight orange peel on my tongue even hours later. This might be more advanced than a well-cellared bottle, but honestly, it might've almost been for the better.

4/13/18, 3:44 PM - Thanks for the post. A great vintage, site, producer, and quality. Prum is so good even in average years with regular bottlings, but those Goldkapsels, oh my, they are in another realm.
I have had many issues with older (8 years+) German Riesling corks most recently last night with a 2004 Christoffel Auslese, so maybe it's a German thing. Nothing like bringing one of those to an Indian or Thai restaurant and having the cork break apart (like has happened to us multiple times).
So what was the price anyway?

I think I paid 60 bucks for it last year
