Community Tasting Note

  • J.S Likes this wine: 90 points

April 15, 2018 - Coravin pour with aerator, let sit for 30 mins.

Medium level nose of smooth red and black fruit.
The wine opens with a delicate and soft cascade of cherry fruit with subtle hints of blackberry. The wine comes across as round but small, there is not much weight or substance to this wine. Dare I say watered down? There are subtle hints of Mt. Veeder staples such as lead pencil and gravel, however they are barely noticeable, if they were more prominent this wine would definitely be elevated. This wine is completely unlike any other mountain wine I have ever had, which makes me question is authenticity and wine making techniques?

This wine is smooth on the palate, and the finish is a low tannin and acidic combination lasting for 20-30 seconds.
All in all this wine is soft, delicate, nothing stands out as offensive, and if it had more strength, and wasn’t as “watered down” this could be a very good wine. However, it’s to “manufactured” and you know the price point was the driving factor over quality. Easy drinking Napa cab.

    4/15/18, 8:52 PM - Two issues:
    1. "pallet"? if you can afford a Coravin, you can afford to spell palate.
    2. 91 pts = "outstanding", which your note doesn't support. You couldn't even call it "very good" in your note. Grade inflation?

That said, 2 letters different, and a score of 88 (or less, based on your verbiage), and this becomes an excellent (and consistent) note! Very useful.

4/16/18, 9:37 AM - Hi Grinner, I appreciate the spell check, I should post one of those "written on Iphone" disclaimers.
I tend to rate wines based on others I have tried, and usually comment on the negatives, perhaps in excess... I am perhaps overly optimistic on wines ratings at times, but I do like to rate them vs others I have tried at the price point and thus the negative comments outweighing the positives in this case. To me this wine is far superior to many lower priced wines I have tried that would surely get 88-90 points.
    I appreciate the feedback, Cheers

12/26/20, 12:34 PM - This guy Grinner seems to be some sort of Wine-Troll (which I didn’t know was a thing). He routinely seems to insult people that make honest and reasonable judgements. For what reason ? I can only think to draw attention to himself? Would advise not replying and/or telling him to FO (in old currency). I don’t think this is reasonable or pleasant behaviour...
