Community Tasting Note

  • Jeff Leve wrote: 100 points

May 21, 2018 - Truffle, flowers, smoke, licorice, wet earth, dark plums and black cherry aromas reach your nose as soon as the wine hits the glass. Full bodied, sensuous and silky, the wine is deeply concentrated and also effortless to drink. The finish lingers for close to 60 seconds. This is a future legend in the making.

5/25/18, 10:06 AM - I have never tasted the '15 Canon , but have ordered it en primeur. I think I know the complexity of this question, but will this Canon be one of the great wines of this vintage in say 15 years ? Because I would really like to celebrate a special occasion at that time with a really great wine ....Otherwise I may be tempted just to drink it as I do other Bordeaux which is frequently but with real pleasure. Your wine notes are a constant source of reference for us in our wine travels.....thank you .

6/4/18, 9:20 AM - Jeff, I was lucky enough to get some of this during the campaign -- if you were to open one soon, how much of a decant would you give it? Or would bury it for a while?

6/4/18, 10:26 AM - If you have a full case, pop a cork, decant 3 hours or so and enjoy the wine. If you only have a few bottles, you should wait at least a decade or longer. It is a super wine. Enjoy!!!

8/23/18, 2:10 PM - Well, I am not among the lucky (and clever) ones that bought this en primeurs. Based on the community's comments, it nevertheless seems that this is one of the wines of the vintage. Would you still advise buying a few bottles at current market price?

  • Jeff Leve commented:

8/24/18, 10:23 AM - Bsinclair. Yes. Realistically, for a wine this good, it is not that much money, especially when you consider other wines at the same level of quality, which sell for a lot more money In fact, there are a lot of wine selling for more that are not nearly that good :)

10/9/18, 6:10 PM - Hello Jeff, I congratulate you on your tasting notes, I am a big fan of yours. Just a question I hope you can answer since you already tasted both 15 and 16 Canon. The price right now is 50% less the 16 than the 15 and I want to buy for the long haul some bottles. Should I buy 6 of the 16 or 3 of the 15 ?
You rarely give 100 points and I must assume it is really something really great.

10/10/18, 12:07 AM - Wren... Oh, tough call. The wines are now vastly different in price and character. Why not grab 2, 2015, and 3, 2016 and compare over the years?
