Community Tasting Note

July 6, 2018 - This was a lovely bottle, but it tasted a bit more oxidized than I expected it would. I find this to be really enjoyable, but find myself wondering about how long this might be able to age and continue to improve. I will definitely be drinking these sooner rather than later. Light-medium body, high acidity, scents of green apples, brioche, and lemons...and the palate offers up pears and citrus along with a nuttiness that I think as long as it remains mild can offer some complexity, but too much more and I would find it to be distracting. Outstanding...but if you have more than 4 of these in the cellar, I'd suggest checking in on them. SIDE NOTE: This was the original bottling with the black label not the newer ones with the gold and white.

7/7/18, 5:25 AM - I think the problem with great years like 2002, is that people forget that not every wine will be for the long-haul. I think I'm right in saying that Veuve Clicquot passed on 2002 for La Grande Dame because they were concerned about how it would age. When a vintage is declared as 'great' the only way it can be re-evaluated is downwards. I've got two of these so I might give one a go in a year or two.

7/7/18, 6:03 AM - @SLIMES - I think you're spot on. Not every bottle is going to age well and not every wine is going to improve with 2+ decades in the bottle. This was much more enjoyable to my taste back in 2015. So I think it's time to rotate them into the fridge for drinking...but only time will tell.
