    July 13, 2018 - Honestly I don’t get the Cult following of these wines. Yes, they are well made but impossible to tell what the wine is because of the dominating rocks, tin, metallic flavor profile that dominates. All of you can give 95-100 point scores for this wine but it’s not deserving. I’d rather drink Araujo and Alban Syrahs all day long.

    7/13/18, 6:34 PM - I will admit that some of Christophe's wines can be a bit overpowering with the funk. Though my experience is that with age, they mellow and develop quite well. That is particularly the case (for me) with Armada, which is one of our favorite wines. I respect your taste though. I do think Cayuse, like all wines that get great reviews and achieve "cult" status, can raise expectations in a way that are perhaps not fair to the actual wine. Thanks for the note -- I appreciate the informed critical contribution!

    7/14/18, 1:00 PM - Ron Slye...I have a few more bottles I will let age longer and see if it helps. Some Reynvaan wines have similar flavor profiles, In The Rocks for sure. I can appreciate some nuances but at a certain point I think it just detracts from the wine. I can appreciate Greek Retsina Wines (which I like but the resin taste alters the wine. I just don’t think I’m a Rocks AVA fan. They are good but my taste prefers more straight forward Syrah flavors. I love K Vintners Syrahs for example.

    7/14/18, 1:56 PM - I can definitely get that. In fact the Retsina comparison is a useful one (though I don't have nearly as much experience with Retsina as I do with Cayuse!). One of the curious things I find with Cayuse wines sometimes is that the Rocks funk tends to dominate over the varietal -- so a Cab is hard to distinguish from a Syrah. I don't find this happens all the time, but it has happened a few times. My limited experience is that with time that dominant funk recedes into the background, while still providing some interesting savory flavors. Thanks again for the comments!

    7/16/18, 4:57 PM - Ron Slye..You said it perfectly in a way I didn't but was thinking about how to describe it. The funk, tin, metallic taste detracts from the varietal. I get that it's unique and different but I just like plain Syrah. Jokingly, I was thinking what next? Lime Cabs and Orange Merlots ala Bud Light? LOL
